A New Era of Open Source Security: Project Glasswing
In April 2026, the Linux Foundation, together with leading companies such as Anthropic, AWS, Google, and Microsoft, launched Project Glasswing. This is a $100 million open source security defense initiative designed to use cutting-edge AI models to automatically identify and fix high-risk vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure. By narrowing the "maintainer gap," Project Glasswing provides defenders with a lasting AI-driven cybersecurity advantage. Linux Foundation Executive Director Jim Zemlin explained the importance of this project in a blog post.
MCP Developer Summit: A New Standard for Agent Interoperability
The Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) held its inaugural MCP Developer Summit in New York, attracting more than 1,200 registered participants. The venue was packed, marking the Model Context Protocol (MCP) as an industry standard for agent interoperability. The summit also kicked off a global series of summits in 2026, which will be held in Europe, Asia, and other regions.
x402 Foundation: A New Neutral Home for Universal Payments
The Linux Foundation announced the formation of the x402 Foundation and the acceptance of the x402 protocol contributed by Coinbase. Founding members including Stripe, Cloudflare, and Amazon Web Services will work together to build an interoperable future in which AI agents and APIs can transact as seamlessly as they exchange data. This lays a neutral foundation for a universal payment standard.
KubeCon Europe: Kubernetes Becomes the Platform of the AI Era
At KubeCon Europe, held last month in Amsterdam, the cloud native community demonstrated that Kubernetes is an indispensable platform for the AI era. Attendance set a record, and a full-size glider on the keynote stage symbolized the project's "lift" in AI infrastructure. The CNCF celebrated the industry's convergence around the PARK stack (PyTorch, AI, Ray, Kubernetes).
European Community Updates and Policy Forum
The European Open Source Policy and Ecosystem Forum will take place on June 8, 2026, in Brussels, bringing together policymakers, industry representatives, and the open source community to discuss Europe's digital sovereignty, innovation, and competitiveness. The call for proposals closes on April 17, 2026. In addition, a recent Open Sovereign Cloud Day reviewed how cloud native technologies can be used to achieve digital sovereignty; the related slides are available online.
Research Insights: Commercial Open Source and AI Executive Forum
Linux Foundation is conducting a survey on the commercial open source ecosystem, inviting founders and business leaders to share how to successfully commercialize open source. At the same time, the newly released AI Executive Forum report summarizes the closed-door meeting held at the end of February and puts forward multiple recommendations on topics such as trust and identity, security and privacy, agentic AI in regulated industries, and open source in agentic AI.
